Chapter 20

Athlondria

Lemir, Panko, and Kalindil lead Jin and the others to the same portal that the others traveled down a short while before. The Doloren Forest is still filled with smoke and debris from the attack earlier. The smell of fire and blood lingers, even though they are far away from the battlefield. Lemir walks to a circle of trees with a patch of grass covered in the shadows. He recites a spell while waving his hand just in front of the trunk of the tree. After a dark portal opens up, he guides them all one by one inside, leading them into the clear spherical ship. Once everyone has gone, Lemir slides into the portal and into the bubble-like sphere.

As everyone tries to get back to their feet, after a less-than-pleasant landing, Panko shakes vigorously, sending massive amount of fur flying everywhere, filling up the cabin. Everyone waves their hands around and sneezes as the cabin air becomes filled with hair. They all waft the furry air in front of them and find seats among the many rows in a compartment that reminds them of an airplane cabin. Much like the ship itself, the chairs have a bubble-like appearance, similar to inflatable plastic chairs. After everyone picks their spot, they all take a small jump onto the seats, as the usual passengers for these ships are seven feet tall, the average height for the Athlondrian people. Once Lemir is finished looking around, making sure everyone is okay, he walks to an empty seat and plops himself down. The chair swells up in every direction, barely holding its shape.

Taril walks around waving his hands as well, disgusted as some of the loose hair lands on his clothes. He then proceeds to make sure the others are securely in their seats like an amusement park worker before the ride. He walks to the front of the bubble and through the door where his ship is attached. After a few seconds, the bubble detaches from the wall and now glides through the deep blue ocean. They all stare in amazement as they move side by side with the beautiful sea life surrounding them. The bubble is transparent on all sides, giving them a majestic view of the ocean, reminding them of being in an aquarium back home. Lemir, although usually someone who doesn’t like to relax or show any type of interest, can’t help but show his excitement as he glances in every direction, looking at the wonders of the ocean. While everyone looks in awe, Panko does the same, except he growls and barks when a sea creature gets too close, scaring them away. As the front of the bubble opens, Taril puts the ship on autopilot and stretches his legs a bit.

“Valier asked me if I could provide shelter for you all. I begrudgingly say yes, but I didn’t know one of them would be from Vafbera,” Taril says, speaking eloquently while trying to offend Lemir.

“Maybe it slipped her mind,” Lemir says, crossing his arms and not making eye contact.
